BOUNOURE & GENEVAUX - SOLO SHOW -
EUROPEAN ART FAIR ST-ART 2021
DECORDE GALLERY

Bounoure & Genevaux use the fold as a unique plastic language: for them the fold is like «a pen for writing in space.» Following in the tradition of the minimalist artists of the 1960s and 1970s, they use cut and folded forms to create a floating sense of spatiality. They have entitled this form of plastic expression «Shaped pattern». Their three-dimensional work tends to abolish the boundaries between painting and sculpture, image and object. The folds formed in the metal sheet are revealed by the light. Their folded mirrors are less objects than image re-creating devices, decomposing the visible. By the new composition that the work offers, the spectator is invited to focus on the present. This year Bounoure & Genevaux are the guest artists of the Estérel Biennale during the Cannes Festival with L’Officiel. They have started a art-industry-residency with Mécenes du Sud which will lead to a large solo exhibition at the art center La Mouche – Béziers. Two of their works selected by the Belgian curator Jean François Declercq will be sold at auction by Cornette de Saint Cyr. Their reference book «A new art of folding» published in France by Gallimard will be translated into Chinese. The solo show during ST-ART 2021 presents the latest works of the artists who won the art prize of Strasbourg city awarded during the European
contemporary art fair in 2019.

BOUNOURE & GENEVAUX - SIMPLICITY -
SOLO EXHIBITION - DECORDE GALLERY -
STRASBOURG - OCTOBER 2020

At the origin, there is an imprint, that of two bodies on a surface, that of Guillaume Bounoure and Chloé Genevaux, a duo of artists who consider the fold as the germ of everything. The works of Bounoure and Genevaux emerge from this primitive gesture, that of folding, that of the contraction of the material, the mirrored aluminum. Like a vital impulse, the fold is borrowed from an energy that shapes and acts on reality.

CARTE BLANCHE - ATELIER JESPERS -
BRUSSELS - MARCH 2020

Atelier Jespers is pleased to announce the exhibition “Sensitive surfaces” by French artists Bounoure & Genevaux at the OFF Collectible fair from February 5 to March 23, 2020.

Guillaume Bounoure and Chloé Genevaux work on the theme of motionless or silent movement to create large polyptychs adapted to the nature and measure of Atelier Jespers.

They play with light to enhance the beauty of ordinary things. Their works are constantly evolving with space and time. In the modernist house-workshop of sculptor Oscar Jespers, built by Victor Bourgeois in 1928, they choose to seek out the original shades of the building. “Simple folded sheets evoke the pure and subtle play of volumes assembled under the light, a wink to the modernists.”

Jean François Declercq – curator of the exhibition

ONE FOLD - BOUNOURE & GENEVAUX

Simplicity etymologically means “which has only one fold”. The fold and the symmetries it generates is a source of multi-fold (multiplication). Also, he was seen by great thinkers like Leibniz, Luminet or Lao-tzu as the matrix of the universe. The one product the two, both are three and from there are born the ten thousand beings … The fold is in our eyes the creative path par excellence. With this minimalist abstraction, Bounoure & Genevaux compose with space and light to bring a fifth dimension to ordinary things.
